Made for the contest Greek Mythology: The Gods majesticarts.deviantart.com/jo… held by :iconmajesticarts:

I was working for quite some time (20+ hours) on this deviation. It is not exactly the way I wanted it to be, but, after many changes, I've decided to keep it the way it is. Chronos is mostly depicted as an old man with long white beard. However, I  found that a bit boring. According to Orphic theories, Chronos had a serpentine  shape with three heads - human, bull and  a lion head. This was quite challenging to imagine, and  I didn't know whether I should put those heads next to each other or just on top of each other. In the end I had found this creepy headpiece which would remind me on the head of a bull, so I decided to use it. Instead of a lion head, I had used hair stock that would fit as a lion mane. Hope you'll like it anyway. :)

Theme: Chronos

Chronos (/ˈkrnɒs/GreekΧρόνος, "time", pronounced [kʰrónos], also transliterated as Khronos or Latinised as Chronus) is the personification of Time in pre-Socratic philosophy and later literature. Chronos governed linear, chronological time. He was depicted in Greco-Roman mosaics as a man turning the Zodiac Wheel He wasmostly confused with the  titan Cronus. As the theory went, Cronus represented the destructive ravages of time which consumed all things, a concept that was definitely illustrated when the Titan king devoured the Olympian gods — the past consuming the future, the older generation suppressing the next generation. During the Renaissance, the identification of Cronus and Chronos gave rise to "Father Time" wielding the harvesting scythe.

In the Orphic cosmogony he emerged self-formed at the dawn of creation. Khronos was envisaged as an incorporeal god, serpentine in form, with three heads--that of a man, a bull, and a lion. He and his consort, the serpentine goddess Ananke (Inevitability), enveloped the primordial world-egg in their coils and split it apart to form the ordered universe of earth, sea and sky. After this act of creation the couple circled the cosmos driving the rotation of heaven and the eternal passage of time.
